Meet the FRESH artist breaking hearts this year at Sydney Comedy Festival – Lauren Bonner

Certified heartbreaker and one of this years Sydney Comedy Festival FRESH artist, Lauren Bonner spent some time with us this week to tell us all about life on the comedy scene and just what we can expect from this years Sydney Comedy Festival.

When and where was your first gig and how did it go?

Gerringong Caravan Park talent quest when I was 7 years old. I did a rap about Scooby Doo and it crushed.

What do you love most about being a comedian?

The glamour and the travel, I recently did a gig to an audience of two in Mullumbimby.

What can we expect from your debut Sydney Comedy Festival show?

Two inseparable best friends (Jonah Hill and Michael Cera) navigate the last weeks of high school and are invited to a gigantic house party. Together with their nerdy friend, they spend a long day trying to score enough alcohol to supply the party and hopefully lose their virginity before they go off to college. Their quest is complicated after one of them (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) falls in with two inept cops who are determined to show him a good time.

Your best advice for someone wanting to pursue a career in comedy?

Please don’t. The fewer comedians there are, the less competition there is for me.

The funniest person you know who’s not a comedian and why?

Garfield – he tells it like it is.

Your hot tips for this year’s Sydney Comedy Festival?

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. (Don’t miss Bec Charlwood, Sian Smyth, Oliver Twist, Gerard McGowan, Blake Freeman, Dan Rath, Noodle Girls, or Rose Callaghan).

You may have caught Lauren on ABC’s Tonightly with Tom Ballard, SBS’s The Feed, at The Comedy Store, Giant Dwarf, Green Lights, The Sydney Fringe Festival, or any and all other comedy rooms around Sydney. Don’t miss her show Heartbreaker at The Enmore theatre on 3 & 3 May.
