Some people see ageing as a process of slowly giving up on your dreams until you end up a compromised version of the person you thought you’d be. Those people will never know the raw, visceral thrill of entering a Chemist Warehouse, realising all your staple toiletries are simultaneously half-price, and just absolutely raw-dogging that register smug in the knowledge that you’re saving money long-term. This show is not for them - it is for you!

Handpicked by the Sydney Comedy Festival (SCF) for the prestigious 2015 Break Out Comedy showcase, chosen as one of Broadsheet’s ten must-see acts of the 2016 SCF, and hot off the back of sold out, critically acclaimed runs at the 2018 Melbourne Fringe and the 2017 and 2018 SCFs, Jack Gow is one of the most exciting voices on the local comedy scene. He has appeared regularly on The Checkout (ABC) and performs frequently at storytelling nights such as Story Club, Late Night Library, as well as periodically hosting the award-winning Little Fictions. His stories have appeared on Radio National, the Story Club podcast, & FBi Radio’s All the Best. His fourth solo-show Weltschmerz is a hilarious, yet poignant, exploration of youth, mortality, and the inexorable march of time - each step bringing us ever closer to the grave. “Touching on identity politics, notions of traditional masculinity, and the dark lengths individuals will go to in order to belong” (AltMedia) this is a “a bittersweet experience, a highly amusing but subtly complex hour by a talented wordsmith” (The Music). Drawing inspiration from the likes of Hannah Gadsby, Damien Power, and David Sedaris, his unique brand of narrative comedy is intelligent, confessional, and thought provoking. Jack’s personal anecdotes examine the darker sides of humanity, those we may not be proud of that nonetheless make us who we are, but always with an eye to personal redemption.
